A US Senator stated that the individual is restricted from bringing on board airliners certain goods but yet trucks loading cases of stuff are not even checked. Do we have to wait for another terrorist completed mission before they checkout the guy driving that Coke truck, ( example only ) and check out what he is delivering too? Is security that weak that we just trust any guy wearing a Coke jacket?

I completely disagree with the lady above- jamesmom. If she knows so much about explosives, why isn't she in the military out there protecting us? I am in the military, and I know that there are explosives out there that come in a gel form, that are not explosive until mixed together. So yes, you could bring it onto a plane, yes you could mix it together while on a plane.
I bet she would be the first to stand in line and b*tch if a terrorist did actually succeed in such a plot. "Why didn't they do anything....Why didn't they stop them"
As for your question, that is a very good point. I hope that they are doing background checks on these vendors, and the guys that work beyond the ropes and scanners. One thing in our favor is the vendors are not the ones loading them into the plane, the cargo personnel working for the airport are. Seeing as how they are not loaded onto a plane as is, but taken out of a case and loaded into a cart one by one, there is a much higher probability that anything out of the ordinary would be discovered.
The guy above, a b, is right too, the bomber would have to be in control of the article. A timed device would not work, because the vendor does not know when that specific can of coke will be loaded. A bomber on the plane wouldn't work either, because the vendor wouldn't know which specific plane it would eventually be loaded on.

Because, the cola is under the stewerd's control. There's no guarantee that the terrorists could locate and retrieve the cola, expecially when it's mixed up with real cola cases. And, it would be probable that the cola would be served and the contents would be discovered ruining the plot.

In order for the liquid plan to work, you must always have possession of the bomb making liquids.

Terrorists cannot access the storage hold of a plane in flight but could use a liquid smuggled in a coke can to mix an explosive!

because our nation is run by morons
did you know that the liquid explosive talked about in the UK airline plot takes HOURS to prepare, a few drops at a time, under extremely controlled temperatures, which would have been clearly impossible on a commercial airplane?
yet, we will now have give up taking liquids on planes forever, because someone thought it actually could have happened, somehow
