I started having stomach problems about 3 months ago. My family doctor did a few test. But has not come up with a diagnosis. I am constantly sick to my stomach from the medication he gave me. So he prescribed me promethazine. I either take a 25 mg pill or give my self a shot any where from 3 to 4 times a day. Either one makes me a little tired. And my mouth is always dry. What can I do. I am tired of being sick, but I would really like to know what is wrong with me.

You need to get yourself another doctor ASAP. How can this doctor treat you when he has no idea of what is wrong with you. You need a gastrologist. And as for The Promethazine. You should not be taking that much. It is meant for short term use, and only when needed. 3 or 4 doses a day every day is way to much. It is not a narcotic. But it can become habit forming, plus it does have side effects. Dry mouth being one of the biggest ones. One of it's uses is to help sedate a patient before surgery. I can not stress enough get your self to another doctor. And make sure you get a diagnosis. And the proper treatment. good luck and God bless

I would advise you to seek a 2nd opinion. The medicine makes you tired because Promethazine is an antihistamine like Benadryl and a lot of allergy medicines.

This medicine is commonly used to treat patients prior and post surgery to calm nausea/dizziness. Sometimes it is used for a rash or allergies, but not that often.

You may need to see a specialist, because your family doctor can only do so much. The best option is to see a Gastro specialist. Check with your insurance company to see if you need a referal from your primary care physician or not.

If you are on an HMO plan you will need a referal, and if you have a PPO you do not.

It would be impossible for anyone here to diagnose what the problem with your stomach is. I suggest you ask your family doctor to refer you to a gastroenterologist. They are trained to deal specificially with problems related to the digestive tract.

As for promethazine. The side effect you're experiencing are very common and are experienced by just about every person who uses it.

Sounds like you need a 2nd opinion. Be sure you go to a Board Certified Gastroenterologist.
