Depends on why you want the MBA. And how you want to get it. If you want to change careers, say move into Ibanking where you could make way more than 8K per month, then you would need an MBA for that. You would likely need to take off 2 yrs and go to a top school like Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, etc. If you want to go into most other areas, you will probably be making between 7-12K gross per month immediately after school. Now the upside potential beyond that is also great. In some places the MBA provides you with credibility. You may find that the alumni network is more important for you. You may value theopportunity to be able to travel and work in areas that you didn't go to college for. If the latter issues aren't so important, than perhaps it makes sense to do a part time program. Keep in mind that business school can cost 35K-45K per year and that admission takes 6 mo to 1 yr of planning.

I was an engineer, took two years off to go to a top 10 business school full time, and am satisfied with the return on investment.

That would depend on what is your purpose of getting an MBA.

In some companies, in order to proceed to a VP position, you are required to take up and pass an MBA. So if that is your current situation and you have a good chance and want to advance upwards, YES :)

If you are doing that hoping that you will earn more money, you are better off exploring other options because I personally feel that there is too much opp cost involved.

Even if you went for one year without income, there is not promise of a better income or a better future, then why dun you work on something that you can at least control on.. like run your own business or something.

Anyway, my business specializes in developing global enterpreneurs so if you are interested, email me at verityy@yahoo.com

Also, there are some people who take MBA for interest. If you are one of them.. then do it ;) Hehehe.. while you are young and without commitments, it is usually easier to do what you like and want then when you have your own family and your own children.

Good luck!

Yes, it provides more career opportunities and contacts. Besides, there are part-time programs offered by many colleges and universities for working professionals. In addition, some colleges and universities offer their programs online.
