Why re-invent the wheel? It's all been done. There are already hundreds of studies that have answered all of these questions, but have merely been supressed or unpublished to the media.

Most studies are funded by the gov't, but the gov't is anti-marijuana and they get to decide which studies get published.

Here is a recent excellent book that answers most of your questions:

Understanding Marijuana (2002)
by Earleywine, Mitch

Check it out at your local library, or get it through the Interlibray Loan for free. Incidentally, this study was funded privately.

I believe that people should be given freedom to do what they want provided it does not harm others. If they want ot abuse their bodies that it up to them and the government should not interfere. I don't think taking Marijuana is a particularly clever thing as it causes mental confusion and cancer. But that is my reason for not taking it, it doesn't have to be anyone else's. Marijuana has not been legalized because the Government believe that this could be the thin end of the wedge and will lead to demands for all drugs to be legalized. All drugs should be legalized. The profits from sales would be taxed, the enforcement (law) costs of the ban would be saved, the resources for the war on drugs could be freed up to fight crime. Crime related to drugs would decrease and funds would be available to treat addicts.

What is the number one reason for keeping marijuana illegal?

It kills people. Why legalize something that kills people? It's like a mother serving her kids poison for dinner.
