Emoticons in e-corresppondence are almost like cliches in spoken speech -- they are easily understood and easy to use, but they don't force the writer to be as expressive or creative as if s/he had to find appropriate words to express the thoughts and emotions.

If you mean the written part of our thoughts then they definitlyy enhance and fasten as the emotions always accompany our thoughts and usually we verbalize the thoughts and the emotions are left to our body language and intonation to be sent and in written for it is these cute faces that do the job of your body.

I think they enhance mine.........When i'm having strong emotions for someone, it enhances my abilty to be more open and direct with the person......
