assuming you leave the walls intact, you couldn't crush the egg if the egg was in a corner

Yes. You get the egg, then take it and smash it into the iron ball. No one said anything about bringing the iron ball to the egg, so the answer is yes. Unless, of course, you mean that the room is two-dimensional when you call it square. In that case, the answer is no because you can't place the egg anywhere in the room.

If the walls are made of standard dry wall, I can crush it with that iron soccerball no problem, and make some nice wall dents too.
