The one who said 18 is an idiot, don't listen to him.

Any time a number is raised to an exponent you multiply that number times itself the number of times indicated by the exponent.
For example: 3^2 (3 to the power of 2) = 3 * 3 = 9
6^3 = 6 * 6 * 6 = 216
2^3 + 4^2 = 2 * 2 * 2 + 4 * 4 = 8 + 16 = 24
if you are still not sure about the explanation IM me.

Ok, here's how it goes:
3 to the exponent of 2 = 3^2 = 3 x 3 = 9

Whatever number the exponent is, multiply the root number by itself however many times the exponent says. For example,
5^2 = 5 x 5 = 25
9^3 = 9 x 9 x 9 = 729

Make sense? Good luck on your quiz.

The exponent tells you how many times you multiply a number by itself. I can't type exponents properly here, but 3 to the exponent 2 is 3 X 3 = 9.

3 to the exponent 3 is 3 X 3 X 3 = 27.

3 to the exponent 4 is 3 X 3 X 3 X 3 = 81

For this, I use a tree diagram since it's very easy to use. Basically you find two numbers that when multipled get the last number. For example:

36
/ \
9 4
/ \ / \
3 3 2 2

Now since there are two, 3's and two 2's, 3 is raised the power of 2(because there are 2 three's), and 2 to the power of 2 (two 2's). Therefore 3^2x2^2=36 :)

Exponents are how many times you multiply a number by itself.

2 to the power of 2 = 2 * 2
3 to the power of 2 = 3 * 3

36 =(2 * 2) * (3 *3)

36 = 4 * 9

36 = 36

You know you want to give ME the ten points! lol

2 to the second power is 4 because it's 2 x 2 which is four
so 3 to the second power would be 3 x 3 which is 9

don't listen to pnogal, nicole,mr_luay, and bookdude (all morons)

2 to the power of two means two times two = 4

3 to the power of two means three times three = 9

4 times 9 = 36

basically w/e is at the base(bottom) multiplies itself by the number on its head(the exponent)

ex: 3 to the power 5 = 3*3*3*3*3 = 243 just an example
