In today's American school system, teachers expect effort. While, effort can get you through school, a little intelligence can help you succeed. Yet, remember that school is only one aspect of your life. With this said, please make time to relax, life is too short.

It is more on persistence (having good memory is a bonus). A student may have a good memory, however if he/she lacks persistence as shown in actions like inattentiveness, absenteeism, tardiness and the likes, it would not help a student successfully progress in school.
But with persistence (coupled with innate intelligence) a student has a greater likelihood of succeeding.

Both are important qualities. You need persistence in order to keep at the tougher assignments and not slack off. You need a good memory to retain information and apply it in the future. As a teacher, I'd take a student with great persistence over one with a great memory any day. There's something about the kids that try their hardest that makes me happy. :)

A memory will always forget. Persistence makes a student work harder to commit to his or her her goals.

i think a good memory would help. because when you have a good memory, you would know everything that the teacher said and have more times to do other difficult questions if you are doing a test.
