I can't stand this this person and he's driving me crazy. I don't hate him...he is actually my friend....it's just that he is obnoxious sometimes...i don't want to make him my enemy by telling him straight that he's annoying, but i do desperately want him to stop....what should i do?

Sometimes to avoid misunderstandings it really is better to be gently honest. ie: he is doing "the annoying thing(s)" you could say "I know you are probably joking, but i really wish you wouldn't do/say that anymore because it makes me feel____" That way you've put it out there plain and simple, and if he keeps it up he is proven that he is not much of a friend and doesn't respect your friendship.

I have been in this situation before, and I do understand that it is a tough one. The way that I handled it was that I told them the specific things that they were doing that were annoying me. But when I did it I made sure that I used I statements not you statements. Let me give you an example:
The person is drumming their fingers on the table and it is driving you up the wall. I would say to them "It bothers me when people drum their fingers on the table, so would mind stopping" This works a lot better then saying "You are annoying me when you are drumming your fingers on the table, could you stop"

um... how about writting him a letter or something???? explain ur feelings to him and say that u still want to be friends.
