My good friend "Wendi" has a bad BO problem. Her breath always smells bad and she has yellow and black gunk in her teeth. She is a awesome person with a good personality. But her personal hygiene is awful. Sometimes the smell is so great I want to vomit. She stinks up every room and car she goes into. Her musty order and foul armpits make me sick. And when she's on her period I just can't hang around her at all. She doesn't like perfume and what not. She isn't allergic to soaps I know that much. I just don't know how to tell her she smells bad and needs to brush her teeth. Please help me break it to her easy!

Be honest and confront her nicely. Start out by telling her that you recently read an article on personal hygiene and that you just want to make sure that all yours friends are healthy. You must care a lot about her otherwise you wouldn't care about her right? She may be a bit embarassed or she could be in denial and says that you're the one with the OB not her. Let's pray she doesn't. Well I suggest that you get her a gift basket from Bath and Body Works to ease her pain. =)

Hi, I just want to let you know that your friend "Wendi" probably has a disease called Trimethylaminuria, or TMAU for short. You can research this inherited genetic condition online. This is a disease which causes no symptoms except for a really bad body odor. The liver of a person who has TMAU cannot process a particular enzyme, which is necessary to break down a certain ingredient found in in most types of food. The body odor caused by TMAU can resemble the smell of rotting fish, feces, urine, or garbage. Sometimes the sufferer smells musty. In women, the smell typically gets worse around the sufferer's period, which is why I am pretty sure your friend Wendi suffers from TMAU. The odor comes out not only in a TMAU sufferer's sweat but also in their breath. The smell can be extremely strong and may even be smelled across the room, even if the person has showered just 10 minutes ago and used deodorant.

Wendi probably doesn't know she has this condition. There is no cure for it so even if she did know, there is not that much she could do about it.

READ THIS WHOLE THING. IT'S SO DANG TRUE* 1. At least 2 people in this world love you so much they would die for you. 2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way. 3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you. 4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you. 5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep. 6. You mean the world to someone. 7. If not for you, someone may not be living. 8. You are special and unique. 9. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you. 10. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it. 11. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take a look: you most likely turned your back on the world. 12. When you think you have no chance of getting what you want, you probably won't get it, but if you believe in yourself, probably, sooner or later, you will get it. 13. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks. 14. Always tell someone how you feel about them; you will feel much better when they know. 15. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great. Add this as a comment to ten of your friends tonight and at midnight your true love will find you. Something good will happen to you at 2:25 tomorrow. Get ready for the biggest shock of your life. if there is a talk on personal hygiene, take the chance to go and bring her along.
Wendi should be aware of her 'obnoxious' smell she is carrying and 'chasing' away people around her. If she is still a young girl (10 or less) , her sensitivity may not have fully matured to realise the seriousness of her problem.

Take an opportunity to slowly lead into the hygiene conversation and subtlely hint to her that she really need to do something about it.

If this you are in school, talk to your counselor. S/He can speak with Wendi about the importance of hygene, and that her hygene is offending other people.

If you are not in a high/ middle school, talk to Wendi. Be upfront, and just tell her. You could go out to the dollar store (Do you have a Dollar Tree) and get her a bar of soap, toothbrush, and toothpaste, and stick it in a bag with a note, leave it on her doorstep, ring the bell, and drive off. Call her house before you do so and have a chat (Odor Free!!!) to make sure she is home.

Hope these methods are helpful, and you could always be straight up about it. If she takes offense, so be it.

sometimes you have to hurt someone before they understand but be out right but in a nice way, suggest she stay at your place and let her see you brush your teeth and what ever you can to show her what you do. ask her to try your perfume for fun , try to fix her hair and do girly things ti to make her look and smell better , she may need that and hasnt had any one to show or teach her anything. like being a big sister to her..

Write her an anonymous note, and be KIND! She may not have been taught about hygiene, and is probably not aware that she needs help. There's no way to just tell her without hurting her, but she might be thankful eventually.

Wow, that's a tough situation. I don't know how old you girls are, but maybe you and some friends should do make-overs or something. Then have her brush her teeth and stuff then tell her how much better she looks.
