One of the greatest boons to the population of the US would be a requirement that all persons at the age of 18 serve 3 years in the military. This would instill a sense of purpose in most people. This would also delay most women from having children in their teens if they knew irrespective of their status as a parent that they had to do 3 years of military service. Most of these people could learn any of a myriad of trades. Education is the worst enemy of poverty. Because an educated person is one who will always be able to get a job.

Selfishness keeps the poverty cycle going. And I'm not talking about rich people having to give to charity or anything. There was a girl in my government class who lived in a really rich neighbourhood and she was going off about how her parents payed all these property taxes and her school district had to share it with poor school districts who didn't have parents who could pay huge property taxes. She was upset that she didn't have the absolute very best (although I'm sure she had a lot better than poor kids have) This is the attitude that keeps poor people poor. If everybody truly had the same opportunities for education kids would turn out better and would be better able to take care of themselves. The problem is the haves keep wanting more and more and more for themselves.

what if every not improverished person, took personal care of one living in poverty, and actually cared about them, help them get there feet under them, and start a new life. and then learning to raise families well, with food, and knowing how to take care of them self. It is just an idea, i dont see much other way, unless we kill them all. but poverity is a cycle, so we gotta end it, one person at a time. Give them HOPE.
