I have experienced that & many others have too but don't want to admit it. A simple example is times I look in the frigerator for something to eat, but don't know what. I will drink a glass of water to figure out what I want & then realize I wanted or needed water & got it without realizing it. The flip side of the question is to answer that you did not want anything in the1st place, therefore, whatever "you get" is not what you want beccause you are not in want. Contentment is not all that bad.

People have been asking me, "What do you want . . out of life . . to make yourself happy . . something," since I was 16 or 17 years old, and I've never been able to answer the question. Now, at nearly 60, I've about decided that the reason I couldn't answer it was because there was nothing I wanted, that I was pretty much satisfied with how things were going all along. It was their asking that suggested there was something more to had, and that created for me a needless discontent.

You can't with that poor of a focus in the first place.

What you can do -- look around you, take career interest surveys, find out where your talents lie, and look to see what careers those talents lie in -- and ... THEN ... DECIDE what you WANT and make a PLAN and then EXECUTE that PLAN to Achieve the GOAL that you WANT.

I don't see how you can get what you want if you don't know what you want. Where would one start if they didn't know where they wanted to go? You can only get what you want after knowing what you want.

People really want to know themselves. They chase after money, looks, success...but still feel empty. Most people really want contentment and peace but don't know it.
