It starts with a simple cross over...Shania or Keith suck you in on some pop station and then you see them on CMT when you are flipping and you fall asleep with the TV on because you are really ill. Then you wake up and meet up with Big Kenny and John Rich and you are fascinated at the Beetle/Palmer like Freak Parade and then you spot one of the young and awesome looking--like Julie Roberts or Dierks Bentley and his flipping cute dog Jake and then you suddenly own an i-Pod and you realize half your downloads are from the genre--and you start quoting the Van Zants...because lets face it they are the leads of Lynrd Skynard and 38 Special so it so strange?...and then that darn crossroads show...you see Pat Benetar and Sheryl Crow and Melissa Ethridge sounding really good with these people and you realize that the much respected John Cougar Mellencamp is a little bit country, and acknowledge you always loved wearing pointy boots, and you just say "Why am I such a snob?" Suddenly you hear someone slamming trailor parks and thinking "Hey you snob....I aint never been the barbie doll type. I can't swig that pink champaign....I'm just a Redneck Woman" Then you start getting really into it...and dream of the five generations back when your family was in the shine business and think, "The Kennedy's supposedly ran shine. The Kennedys!" Suddenly you decide the fascination is not lowering your IQ. In fact it seems pretty smart--well maybe not intelligent but common sensey--like there is "truthiness" in it.
Can it be cured? Why? Come on...give it a listen.

Some could have a mental illness, yes. It is called CW (Country-western), or a CW come state. And as such, it is very serious and cannot be cured. Still, it is not fatal for the whole body, but just for a fair amount of brain cells. And many people can continue to lead a 'normal' life as nothing has happened.
Then there's a AFS syndrome (alcohol fallen standards syndrome), which is sort of like Mental Illness Light. It occurs occasionally, and can be treated and scaled down. Unfortunately, sometimes the standards fall so low, that the person slips into the CW coma.
Of course, there are rare cases of lobotomy and other severe mental damage caused CW.

Not at all. Although I generally prefer classical rock, classical jazz and classical music, some Country & Western music can be sweet or original or folky. It's best to keep your mind open about it, since it can overlap so much with other forms, especially folk and rock music. Do you like Dire Straits, the Dixie Chicks or Southern Rock?

Likeing Country & Western music isn't an illness, It's more of a phase beer drinkers go through after an ugly divorce or when they wreck their truck. I know this from experience.

No they don't have mental illnesses they have open minds. If all the music in the world was the same type the world would be a boring place. Country & Western music is cool..............some of it anyway

I personally like a variety of music such as rap, reggae, r & b, freestyle/club, modern rock, classic rock, basicly if it has a beat I like it. And yes to a certain extent I like country, and seriously you know deep down inside you like some country !!!!!! You need to get over yourself. Your friends will only make fun of you if they like country too and are also embarassed about it. And to answer your question know you don't have some kind of mental illness, if your that concerned about being retarded than contact your doctor. Good luck !!!!
