depends. as what are you invited? as a prospective customer? a friend of the owner? helped set up the place? are food contributions welcome or encouraged? i think you should bring a nice little plant. one of those fortune bamboo things. or just bring a decadent dessert for the party.

A small child might be nice.

Actually, be sure to wear washable clothes. And as a gift for the owners and teachers, I would bring a care package with aspirin, hand lotion, bottled water, Kleenex and a few Hershey's kisses for each of them.

A non-flowering plant like a palm is a good 'hostessy' type present.

And if the place is a non-profit or struggling with operating costs, I would bring art supplies like crayons, construction paper, blunt-nose scissors, googly eyes, school glue, or age-appropriate books.

Cookies, crayons, construction paper, cheap giant plastic balls, Elmer's glue, empty coffee cans, plants, hedgehog or thereabouts (gerbils, hamsters, etc.), baby Einstein tapes/videos, old shirts for painting smocks, wooden spoons, small plastic swimming pool half-filled with uncooked dry rice for measuring, pretty stain glass stuff to hang in the windows, your pledge to come back often and rock the little ones and read aloud.
