I was thinking of buying a sailboat and living aboard. I've heard there are tons of expenses involved, so was wondering if anyone could give me a $ breakdown.

I only lived aboard my Lancer 29 for 9 months. All that time including slip lease, fuel for my truck and the boat, food, insurance, basically everything was $600 a month.. Good luck on the live aboard it is a grand life style... Jim

We always find it cheaper living aboard than in an apt. You need a good stove, we like the Origa, a nonpressurized alcohol. You need refrigeration and not an ice box, otherwise food does not keep. You need a heater, depending on where you are. You need to keep up the boat exterior and interior. You may need a post office box. Good luck.

A Realistic Monthly Budget
Take your monthly loan payment (if any)
Add your monthly boat insurance payment (if any)
Add any monthly dockage/storage fees
Add a solid 1.66% (1/12th of 20%) of the purchase price for maintenance
And throw in an undetermined amount of dollars towards "miscellaneous depending on size of boat. say $500
