let L be length P permimeter and W be width

L=8+2w
P=64

P=2L+2W
64=2(8+2W)+2W
64=(16+4W)+2W
64=16+6W
64-16=6W
48=6W
48/6=W
8=W

Assign x equal to the width hence 2[(8+2x)+X]=64 solve for x which comes out to 8 .

If the length is (2x+8) and the width is (x).... then the equation becomes 6x+16=64. (two lengths and two widths). Solving gives an answer of 8 for the width

One long side + one short side = 32 inches
long = 2 * short + 8
(2 * short +8) + short = 32
3 * short + 8 = 32
3 * short = 24
short side ( width ) = 8 inches

simple substitution gives you
(2W + 8) * W = 64
solve for W. That will give you the width.
