I think it is because it fits well with many names. It is such a beautiful name. I had five girls and two of them have the same middle name , and that is Marie. I started all my children with the letter L and I wish I wouldn't have gone that route. My husband at that time started with the letter L and so did mine so I just got stuck with the letter. I love old fashion names and wish I would have used them instead, but too late now.

Because it goes well with almost all names. For example, Christina Marie, Angela Marie, Jessica Marie. It just sounds really good. Other names, such as Crystal, doesn't sound as well when you combine them. For example, how does Jessica Crystal sound to you? not too good, right?

Well one reason it is the name of a Catholic Saint, another it goes with just about everything possible first name. My middle name is Marie, only spelled "Marrie" just like my mother who's father misspelled it, I passed that same misspelling onto my own daughter and began a family tradition. (Oh, BTW, we are a Catholic family)

the virgin Mary is probably the most popular female name in, well ever. she was Jesus mother, and then Mary Magdalene, who some believe, well I'm not going there but Mary is the most prominent female name in the bible. and since most don't want to name their girls Mathew Mark Luke or John they opt for Mary.

It is another form of Mary and if you were not called Mary you had to be mae or marie.
