I banked with a very small bank for the last 8 or 9 years. I am aggrivated because they would not approve me for a home equity loan. I think it is small town bull. I am transferring everything to chase bank. I get free checking, an open end line of credit, a bank card, computer banking and the guy was really helpful. At my old bank, you could feel them being arrogant and almost snubbing when you walk thru the door. I dont know why i am so nervous. Maybe its change or am I missing something. I work full time as a nurse and I am single.

I am leaving a small balance of like $200 in my old checking until I am sure all checks and surprises have cleared.

Don't be nervous.... all you do is write a check for the correct balance in your account... and let it sit for a month.... then go to your old bank and tell them that you are closing your account. It happens every day... and is no big deal. And if your old bank treast you that bad, think about the fact that you are now snubbing them... and it truly is THEIR loss, not yours.

First, make sure all your checks from the old bank have cleared before you close the account. Or you'll have to return and see them under less than pleasant circumstance. If Chase is providing you better service with less costs, then change. You may not get the "I recognize you" that you received at the local bank but what the heck. Some people that work at banks, especially small ones, don't realize the money isn't theirs but the depositors. When they ask, if they ask, why you leaving, tell them. If they don't ask, the you know you're absolutely right-go!

Don't close your account yet. Wait tell all your checks clear and leave money in the account. When all your checks have cleared. Then close that account. If they happen to have another branch. Use that one to close your account. Tell them you want it hard close. So if any checks/debit come through your account will not be charged. You may need put the request in writing that they hard close your account and you will not be responsible for any charges after your account is closed. Send a follow up letter to Customer Service at the Main Branch. Saying the samething.

There is absolutely no reason to be nervous. You have a full time, responsible, well paid job. All RESPONSIBLE bankers would just love you. The fact that you have equity in your home, while you are single with no ties, should qualify you for a loan without question.

As long as you don't run off to Vegas to max out your credit limit you'll be okay.

No need to be nervous unless you have checks that haven't cleared yet - you are the customer. Just go into the bank and do what you have made up your mind to do - and I would tell them why!

I used to feel the opposite. We loved our small town bank. Go ahead if you're feeling that way, but I hope they ask you why you're closing your account. Be sure and be honest with them.
