In Spanish, the name Lara means "protection". Which I think is a lovely meaning for a name!

It doesn't do much for me. But if you are using it in honor of someone else then definitely use it and don't worry about what anyone else says. I feel like Lara is a snooty name. I like Lyra though. But I think you should name your child whatever you want so if YOU like Lara then do it. I'm sure she will be beautiful. Good luck and congrats!

Very nice but a bit old fashioned, I have a friend with a daughter called Lara she is 30 now, but what the hell go for it.

I like it. I only know one girl named Lara and she was born in 1981. That is an unusual but beautiful name and I do think of Dr. Zhivago.
