Disco music, polyester clothes...or on the other end "earthy" natural, free flowing clothes, small boobs, no bras, nature and ecology were kewl topics...Save Mother Earth... John Travolta and John Denver were 70's icons.
The "retro" 50's were considered to be "kewl." Smoking pot, cocaine, parties, dancing at Clubs...rock concerts...Sat Nite Live back when the "best" were on, platform shoes, Pet rocks, lava lamps, a calcualtor U could hold in your hand!! No computers...maybe just a few that played "Pong", Nixon and Watergate, Gremlin and Pinto cars, Smiley Buttons...

The groups Kansas, Chicago the BeGees and disco was popular on the rock scene. i don't know about the others because I never listened to them. Rap was a sound the door made when someone knocked on it and had not been heard of as music.
McDonalds and KFC were about it in the fast Food department Burger king had made an appearance but broiling hadn't become real popular as a health issue yet. Most people were fairly skinny and AID'S was non-existent. We had the presidential fitness program in school to help promote health and you got a neat patch and a certificate for doing it. Computers were just coming out at most high schools and I remember playing a space game of some kind on my lunch hour in the computer lab. there were 2 computers and one was always down. We programmed in cobalt and Fortran and basic was just coming out. Russia was really the only threat as an enemy and the wall was still up dividing east and west Germany.
Barbie Gi Joe and stretch Armstrong were the modern toys and I got my first digital Texas Instruments LED watch and boy was that high speed tech back then. There is a whole lot more but you are probable shaking your head saying , "Man they damn near lived in a cave back then!!".

The trends were disco dancing or drugs. Those were the two major camps of people. The stoners hated the disco dancers and vice versa. America was a fun place to live in. No one had heard of political correctness yet. People spoke their minds and everyone understood that ALL individuals had the right to free speech. Those days are long gone.

First there was c/o from the 60s bell bottoms, granny glasses,
clogs, shoes with chunky heals, muslim shirts, men with long
hair and shags, outdoor rock concerts, Led Zepplin, Aretha Franklin, Aerosmith, Stones, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, many
parties, Allman Brothers, parties.
Then came the disco era and it was alot like Sat.Night Fever with
John Travolta playing the part of Tony Manero and dancing. I was
not too much into the disco era but loved the rock portions.

Rock was kind of dying, morphing into some disco hybrid with lots of techno crap, love (sex) was no longer free like it was in the 60s, marijuana was getting stronger everyday, men's hairstyles were getting all girly looking, women's clothes were getting tighter, pinball machines were still in, and I still had hair (though mine was just long and straight, nothing girly looking).
