MA KOB
and you sort of swallow a "ruh" sound at the end. it is barely there at all.
It is from French, and ( to me) there are many French words that have an almost silent last syllable - but it is there. It just isn't there in a clearly spoken syllable.

I pronounce it 'ma-kahb'. I won't say 'ma-karb', because any American would automatically assume that I pronounce the 'r'! (You know us Brits rarely pronounce an 'r' when it's before another consonant!!)

macabre adj. grim, gruesome, esp. in having to do with death.
(say muh COBBRA or muh COB or muh CABBRA)
I always pronounce it muh COB.....sounds creepier.
