They are training (or trying to train) a guy to replace me when I leave..he didn't put any water in the veg before putting them into the steamer and they ended up in the warmer with no water...Judy (the general manager)chewed my a$s out about it because as always everything is my fault...she had complained about the English peas last...I told Wes, in Judy's presence, "Would you kindly add water to the veg so that when Judy comes back here to take a pea she can be assured it will be a wet one"...oh, she was pissed off! I'm suprised she didn't send me home! She slammed the warmer door shut and slammed the veg down onto the prep table and scowled as if I'd just crapped in a bowl and told her to eat it up and enjoy...I really do hate that woman!

obviously they are thinking about replacing you at some point. Just the thought of having to train someone to do your job would bother me. I think what you did was rather amusing. You did absolutly nothing wrong in what you said but got your point across very clearly. Serves her right. Yeah she would have fired you for yelling at her or cursing her. But, to tell the trainee exactly what she jumped on you about is rather ingenious. I would start looking for another job though if I were you. You may have got this laugh but I promise you she is talking with the owner or district manager trying to get you fired. Good Luck...

Oh yes I would have laughed (and yes I am a manager in food service). Some people need to lighten up. But you gotta understand where she is coming from too.... She has a lot of job and responsibility and expects those she hires to do their job, so that she has more time to do her job and not get stuck into associate functions. Its frustrating for me, I don't know about other managers. You may not be aware of how much stress she has going on. A good manager can keep it real, fun and still get the job done, but it's still rough! Anyways, I would have laughed in that situation for sure!

I am just a lowly server, but I would have cracked up had i been there, probably with the effect of having to clean the cappuccino machine.
I would say that restaurant personalities tend to be more volatile, and through experience I have learned that GM's and managers absolutely HATE to be proven wrong or made to feel foolish. Usually (i theorize) because deep down inside they are terrified that someone is going to figure out they are not as smart as they think they are.
You zinged her, goodun. I'll save you a place in the unemployment line he he.

I would have rolled in the floor laughing!
Had an area manager get pissy with me once and tell me she wasn't a happy camper. I promptly told her to pack up her fu*king tent and go home!
Needless to say... three days later, I was fired.

When a woman has her dander up, and her knickers in an bunch, she is in no mood to wrangle with the "nuances" of a good joke :)

I think you have outlived your usefullness to that woman, as she is replacing you with a vengence :)...

Just be kind and train the poor guy, remember, "he" has to put up with her, after you leave!

I wish you well ..

Jesse

i think it was pretty funny myself. It should have been pretty plain that Judy wouldn't find it funny from the way you described her. Oh well, some people take life to seriously.

interesting story. have it printed in the new york times as hillarious. or keep it in your diary. i did not get the moral part of the story -- does it have one? and do you really expect us to give you 100 p.cent right -- you have my vote -- however I promise I will never eat in your restaurant under the same ownership. That will do as an answer. no, thanks.
