I don't drink alchol, I can't because it's extremely addictive to me (both side of family have alcholic history) and if I got drunk, I get really violent. So I avoid drinking.
However I notice that almost everyone think they need beer for every possible event. Also they seems to want to be at bar often, show off about how they drink, hold beer can and drink it in show offish way, and other things. What's up with this? I don't get it at all. Also why do some of them feel so oblige to force everyone to drink too?

I usually have no problem tell people to quit it if they try to pressure me into drink. I simply tell them to go a couple rounds with me since I'm a amateur fighter. That usually get them thinks twice because I'm violent if I get drunk.

The commercials make beer drinkers look cool, and dumb kids and stupid adults emulate the commercials.

I have to agree with somedude and Father Ashley. I love beer and I know my limits, and to each their own. Personally I love the taste of beer and the way it relaxes me. I drink for enjoyment (not for cool points or showing off), so I can enjoy the aroma, the sip, the taste, and aftertaste.
Men use beer as a way of bonding, blowing off steam etc... It harks back to the days of ancient mead halls where the king's warriors gathering around the hearth to keep out the winter's cold.
People just have to be mindful of who their friends are, and the reasons why they drink, and use good judgement. Beer isn't the problem, its only a problem when abused.

Peer pressure, wanting to fit in and be social, media/ads, society's values, thinking that alcohol resolve problems, etc. all encourage people to drink. It would be hard to give a simple explanation since many, many factors encourage that phenomenon. All I can say is, don't let the others get to you if they think you are stupid for not drinking or try to pressure you into it, it's your choice and your lifestyle, no one should make that kinda choice for you.

Lets face it, you are making the right decision, about not drinking. You have a history of alcoholism in your family and you are a lot smarter than the rest of your "buddies"...
Also, no "buddy" would "force" you into making a decision like that, whether to drink or lose his friendship...
I suggest you get new friends, and the best ones are in Church!
I wish you well..

Dude, i'm a drinker. I love to drink and i've had my lows and my bottoms, but for some reason i keep drinking. It's just someting that makes me happy nad makes me enjoy life more. many people are gonna blast me for this comment, but I support alcohol, you bet. Makes life great, but you have to know how to take control. About to oblige someone else to drink, I think that's for loosers who try to justify their blame. Don't fall into that.

Good for you for standing your ground! I agree with you. Some people think they have to drink to fit in or to have a good time. I drink occasionally, but like you, alcoholism is on both sides of my family so i have to be careful.

I also have a family history of alcholism, so I don't drink at all. I believe people drink because it lets them be less self conscience and less inhibitive. It make guys feel macho and girls feel sexy.

advertising makes them think its cool, they dont like their lives and they dont like themselves until they are drunk, but sadly the rest of us dont like them after they are drunk. the man i love used to drink a good bit, till he learned that others didnt like him a lot when he was that way, now he has a mixed drink about once a week and here at home. Drunks like other drunks, I love my man sober. im diabetic so no drinking for me.

there is no longer an considerable adequate volume of alcohol fume interior the beer to electrify the breathalizer in any respect. i think of it takes like 30 non alcoholic beers to electrify your b.a.c by a hundreth. yet... think of approximately speaking your self out of that one. The cop may be cool and enable you to bypass, getting a chortle... yet in addition they have the surprising to seek the automobile for suspicion at that element. they are able to additionally learn the beer to make certain its particularly non-alcoholic... blah blah blah. good question, yet i nonetheless think of it may be a soreness interior the *** to bypass by for a non-alcoholic beer. you comprehend? bypass the extra mile to the bar for a real beer.
