up my mind about the cost of this car, it has been owned by a older lady that got it new in 83 she only drove on the innerstate roads to and from the city where she worked each day.latter she bought a new one when hers had 220.000 miles a local man i know has the car and while on a trip he stoped at a mercedes dealer for service they made a mistake with the oil line and later the engine was replaced with a new one turbo and all, at this time the new motor has 45.000 miles on it, the car is black / tan inside the inside on a- 1 to 10 scale -is a 8--- the outside is a -9 - top to bottom a very nice car with 0% rust , the owner has now had a stroke and wishes to sell the car he wants $4000.00 no less. as i said its a nice car with good looks and a sun roof to boot, but when i see that model on ebay for under $2000,,,, i worry its way over priced, i would like some more information on this one, if anyone could take the time i would really happy to know more, thanks so much

I think the price is a little high,,because i own a repair shop,,and have seen a lot of them for sale,,they are great cars,,no doubt about it,,and very reliable,,but there wanting almost double of what it is worth,,one thing that stands out about the car though is the fact it does have the new engine in it,,the ones on e-bay are mostly original,,and high mileage vehicles,,there still is the money factor,,and like you said he wont come down none on it,,if he would budge,,just a little it would be a good deal,,actually if i were looking at the car,,i would have probably done bought it,,because i think it would make a good car,,for years to come,,but if you ever want to resale it,,your not going to get your money back out of it,,you can drive that much out of it though in a few years,,id say go get it,,but the price is a little high,,but look around at the other ones,,and some people are asking close to that price,,there asking a lot though,,so they have room to come down some,,it makes for a better sale if they come down a little,,my family owns a car lot,,and if we had it on the lot it would be priced about $2999.00,,thats a good selling point on it,,especially if its in good condition,,often cars will bring more,,if there in excellent condition,,think it over,,it is a good deal,,but high on the money side of things,,it doesnt matter what i think or any one else thinks,,your the one who is going to be paying for it,,and driving it,,my personal opinion,,i think its worth it,,just think about it for a little while,,i dont think your making a mistake by buying it,,because the ones on e-bay,,sometimes are junk,,pure and simple,,i have seen some of them up close,,and have inspected a few of them,,and they are rougher than they appear to be,,your sounds like a good solid car,,good luck with it,,i hope i have helped some.

It wan't both. The Mercs of that era were time-honored with the help of engine kind, body kind, and displacement. A 300D can be a midrange sedan, 5 cylinder 3L diesel. The "massive sedan" for the 365 days might want to be the 300SD, even as the wagon might want to be the 300TD. The small vehicle in that era replaced into the 190D, which honestly had a 2.2L 4 cylinder diesel.

If you like it, it is close, you have access to service records, you get it checked out before you buy it it is worth 4000. Older Mercedes are incredibly robust cars, it should require minimal care for the next 200000 miles. Either that or chase ebay listings across the country, which is equilivent to a crap shoot.

Split the difference - $3,000 and keep the car in immaculate condition. The car will start gaining in value once the numbers start dropping off. The law of supply and demand.
