Due to a previous miscarriage, I have been a nervous wreck with this pregnancy. I somehow manage to find new things to worry about! I am 18 weeks along, and am worried about having an incompetent cervix.. I have had 2 abortions, and 1 D&C, so I feel like I might be at risk.. My doctor reluctantly measured my cervix (since he thinks I'm worrying over nothing), and it measured 3.6 cm long.. Is that normal? Should I demand routine testing? Is my worrying justified?

I had a neighbor with an incompetent cervix and they sewed her up and she lay on the couch for 6 weeks with her second pregnancy. Then they removed the sutures and she had the baby. Everything was fine.

Why do you think you have an incompetent cervix?

WendyD1999's answer is totally true. I knew of a woman who underwent the same procedures for both her children. I don't think you have anything to worry about because I'm certain that your doctor would have known if you have one and would have taken the appropriate precautionary measures because it would be considered a high-risk pregnancy.

Did you have a miscarriage later on in the pregnancy? Like past the first trimester? Women who have incompetent cervixes tend to have miscarriages later on in the pregnancy when the baby gets too big/heavy and the cervix cannot support the weight. If you want to find out more about this, I highly recommend a book called "What to Expect When You Are Expecting".

I could tell you not to worry, but you are going to anyway. I went through the same thing with two pregnancies after giving birth to my first baby 12 week prematurely. I was also labeled as having an "incompetent cervix." The thing that helped me through my two subsequent pregnancies was to keep a journal each day. I wrote down every positive and negative thought I had. My children are 23 and 18 now and I have kept the journals and look back on them from time to time and it helps remind me of what blessings they are and how much they were wanted. Hope this helps. As an add-on, I also had sutures put in with both my second and third pregnancies. Everything went well and both babies were carried to near term.

My surgeon advised me that maximum in all probability i does no longer could be on mattress relax, yet that i might could take it undemanding and not paintings. i'm working 3 jobs precise now attempting to get costs paid off so that's definitely no longer a undertaking. good success to you and your toddler.

your doctor would have told you if you needed to worry. I think you are fine. If you have questions about the correct measurements then you need to ask your doctor. But I think you are just over concerned. Check out: http://www.babycenter.com
