I'm guessing you installed the drivers for it?...If you did, then make sure he didn't have WEP/WPA encryption or maybe it's from Internet Explorer, download Firefox or another browser from another PC and put it on his on a disk or something...

Troubleshooting Wireless Networks

1. Download and install the latest software, firmware, and utilities. Select your product on this page.

2. Each wireless device must have these set the same:

SSID. This is case sensitive (Netgear is not the same as neTgeaR). The default for SSID changed from "wireless" to "NETGEAR", so new equipment may need its SSID changed.
The wireless channel 1 to 11 (1 to 13 in some countries.)
The Wireless Mode must be set to ad hoc or infrastructure. Choosing Between Ad Hoc and Infrastructure Mode explains the differences.
Encryption. You have these options for encryption:
Don't use any
Use WEP What is WEP?
Use WPA-PSK What is WPA?
Use WPA
Some equipment allows you to use VPN What is VPN?
Enable wireless access point. (Check the checkbox.)
If access list (ACL) is turned on (note that the default value is off), check the MAC addresses of the wireless adapters are in the router's access list.
3. When configuring a router:

The username must include a whole address like smartsue@isp.com — NOT just "smartsue".
After making changes, click Apply!
4. If the signal strength indicator is red, see Improving Wireless Range. Any color but red is acceptable.

5. If you turned WEP turned on, then turn it off. If the problem goes away, then turn WEP back on, then follow instructions in Improving Wireless Range.

6. For Windows 95 and Windows 98, look in the Windows Device Manager to see if the NETGEAR equipment has a yellow exclamation mark (an IRQ conflict). Instructions applying to generally to Windows systems are in Resolving IRQ Conflicts. If you have an IRQ conflict, resolve it first.

It might be a setting on the router, maybe a wireless password or something. You could try connecting the computer to the router with a wire and see if the problem is the computer or the wireless connection

Did you assign the IP address yet for that computer? (Control Panel >Network Connections> (right-click on the type of connection you are using) and choose Properties. On the General Tab, under "This Connection uses the following items:" scroll down to the bottom, you should see "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" highlight it and click on "Properties". There you can assign an IP address for your friends PC.

SSID/WEP Passphrase (think login/password for a network) issue. Usually the WEP Passphrase that you forgot; put in correctly. If you forgot and can't get it, reset the router according to its manual.

Always like that, my Pocket can't go on net for hours because of this screwup, finally found that I put in wrong WEP.
