yes they were pathetic, but the ref didn't see the fracas.

OMG ppl!! get over it! italy won!! he didnt because this happens ALL the time in soccer!! that proves how littl u kno about the sport!! do u think soccer is just an innocent little game where they kick the ball from one side of the field to another?? theres obviosly things like that happening all the time!!!!!! check soccer pictures ofplayers trying to get the ball or just randomly walking nd ull c them grabbin their shirts 70% of the time!!! and Zidane was also involved in the exchange of words and by the way.. check the news and ull c zidane provoked materazzi verbally after materazzi grabbed his shirt (which every1 does)!! if something was pathetic it was the decision of giving Zidane the penalty which was by the way sooo unfair!! and its not true the ref was "paid" because if he was he wouldnt hav given zidane that penalty!! AZZURRI CAMPIONI DEL MONDO!!!! get over it!!

You can't stop the game for taunting...it's just verbal. It's not against the rules to try to get in the other players head...but Materazzi was out of line...and Zidane was way out of line. Both were at fault but the ref can't stop the game for that. Also the ref wasn't around to hear it happen.

Because this is football (real football) and the refs never NEVER stop the game for anything! There have been worse fouls than the head butt, and I'm sure worse taunting. The game DOES NOT GET STOPPED!

The referee for the Final game was not pathetic... only the free penalty kick he gave Zidane was pathetic!

No the one from Canada wasn't pathetic... He comes from my city... The french-quarters. Yay for canadian refs!
Oh by the way darling, football is soccer.
The refdid not see Matterazzi taunting Zizou because he was following the ball which was not close to Zizou at the time... Makes sence to me. They hadn't even seen the headbutt, I think it was Buffon who finally alerted them.
