Ok..I am getting married in September of 07' and my dad and I are butting heads on the dinner situation...my fiancee and I want to feed everyone who comes to the reception but my dad is opting for an immediate family dinner at a restaurant prior to the reception...if he is willing to foot the bill is it ok for us to tell him that we have decided to stay with our idea? HELP!

Ok, whos wedding is it? yours or your dads?
If dad can afford dinner out then dad can afford the reception.
Let your dad know that you would like to have something small for the reception if he cant afford what you have planned and see if you can comprimise on it some way.
If money is a problem then take the amount he would spend at a restaurant and then see what you can put together for the reception. Finger foods arent half bad and there are many kinds out there. Many of which you can get from sams club and heat yourself if you have family that wouldnt mind chipping in on some of the work.
If money is a bit tight, then find something that isnt too expensive.
But most of all talk to your dad about it and tell him that this is your special day and you would like to have something at the reception. Let him know its important to you.

No you stick to your guns on this one, it is NOT his day! The night before the wedding he can take immeddiate family to a restaurant for the rehersal dinner BUT the actual reception dinner choice is up to you and best left traditionally catered for.

Absolutely, It is your day to share with friends and family not just family. I am sure all of your friends would be extremely disappointed if they were not included in your happy day at the reception. That's the whole point of the reception to have fun with family and FRIENDS.....

yes, it is your wedding and you should have it the way you want it. if he is will to foot the bill for immediate family only then tell him you will pay the difference.

well how about you tell your dad that he can take the family out to dinner after the rehersal, and then you guys can just to both??? then everyone is happy... unless you just dont like your fathers idea.... then... well do what makes you happy!!! good luck! :o)
