Who cares if they're lucky or unlucky. They're very pretty. I have four in my room as an arrangement in a vase...I shortened the shafts to make them more manageable (about 2 ft long now instead of 3 ft), then put them in a nice blown glass vase, with unusual and highly coloured river stones (that I collected myself). It's a quite striking arrangement.
I also have a clover plant in my garden that is bearing 5, 6 and 7 leaf clovers, both in green and albino. I told my daughters that it's wasted on us, because none of us believe that 4 leaf clovers bring luck (although it's been a good source for the kids show and tell).

They are supposed to be unlucky for actors....... an old superstition like saying good luck to them.... but I feel the only bad luck is to the peacock who got his feathers plucked. OUCH!

I think they are traditionally considered unlucky, I'm not sure why...
I think either for vanity, or because thats the part the preditor grabs on the male to eat him.
