It is all perception. Our concept of time has to change because our experience of time changes. As youths we had not experienced many days passing, a day seemed like a long time. As we age, we have seem more months pass, and so a month is not a long time any more. Then years seem to pass quickly, then decades. Many old people note their whole life passing quickly, so apparently, it evens extends to whole lifetimes passing quickly.

We could compare our perception of time to anything that we develop a tolerance too, i.e., alcohol, spicy food, etc. What once seemed like such a big deal, becomes less powerful to our mind and body based on our experiences.

Gave that a lot of thought some time ago. Here is my conclusion.
Looking back in time the past always seems the same amount of time (with more memories of course). And the subjective time adjusts to that, it appears like a percentage of the time lived.
Thinking back, I feel that when I was 6 the time moved about 15 times as slow as it does now, when I was in my 20s it moved about 8 times slower at 40 about 4 times slower.
That also means whether you die at 10 or 100, looking back the total always seems about the same. A full life. I imagine when we get to live to a 1,000 years, that will continue. Only question then is how much our memory can hold before losing data.

I was 41 and I blinked -- now I'm 56. We find more value in time as we learn to spend it more wisely. If it weren't becoming more precious to us, it would mean that we were wasting it.

The more you add logs to the fire, the hotter it will grow....The more things you add to your life to fill up that time, that faster it will seem to slip by.

You know that it won't go on forever. The older we get the more we value our time.
