I ain't gonna lie to you, it hurts. But everyone is different. Some people have low back pain, some across the front of the belly. My contractions (both times) started in the lower back area and continued getting stronger. The pain was very similar to period pain (menstrual cramps) but it came in waves. And mine travelled down my thighs which wasn't nice. I sat in the bath at the beginning and breathed through it until 5cms. Then I used gas and air for the rest of the time. I had to have my waters broke which really intensified the pain but within 15 mins I had a lovely baby son. The pain stops immediately you give birth. Its very strange.
Try not to focus on the pain. You can and will get through it. If you're struggling don't be afraid to ask for help. There's no shame in it whatsoever.
A good trick is to try and think of each contraction as one less you will have to go through.
And each one takes you a step closer to you seeing your beautiful baby.
When I had my first child I hated every minute and it lasted 16 hours but it can't have been that bad cos I went and had another two years later!
Good luck, you're gonna be just fine x

My labor felt like someone had taken a belt around the front of my stomach and tighted it really tight. And you will all of a sudden feel this tight feeling and it just keeps getting tighter and tighter and then it just releases. And then it will happen again in a minute or so. Mine did hurt a lot, but I knew it would be over not long after it started. When it came time to push, all of a sudden I had a sudden urge to push like I had to go to the bathroom and I could not hold it any longer. And when I pushed, it felt like I was having a BM. It was a tight, stretched out feeling down there between my legs. But when it was over, most of the pain was gone too. Just soreness remained.

It hurts like hell! You feel like you're having horrible menstral cramps while having pain from doing too many sit ups and feeling nauseated all at the same time. Your back hurts and they put a monitor on you so you can't even change position. But you know what? The minute the baby is delivered and you look at your child, it all goes away!

YOU WILL KNOW. I went to the hospital and was sent back home twice because i wasn't dilated enough!!! But the pain was sooo strong that i went anyway.
Basically, every few minutes you will start to feel a debilitating pain similar to period cramps but INTENSELY MAGNIFIED BEYOND BELIEF. If you are 2 cm...you better have one foot out the garage and ready to go!!!!!!
Is there someone there helping you? There should be someone there to help you time the contractions with a clock that has a second hand!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I WISH YOU LUCK...use the epidural and just know that it will all be over before you know it.

I have 2 kids and its not that bad... well its bad but not something you will remember as that bad. It feels like you have to go to the bathroom like you never have before. I personally suggest an epidural. It works wonders on all of the pain. but I'm a wimp maybe you can handle it.
I hope everything goes well and the baby is healthy. Sounds like things should happen any day. GOOD LUCK :)

well at first it will feel like period cramps and they will come often, sometimes you feel like u are consipated, but then when you start getting into hard labor ( I dont want to frieghten you) but it does hurt!! But the end result is well worth the pain, and if it was so bad women wouldn't have more then one kid! I have three and my youngest is 3months and I survived...lol. You will be fine and just remember there are good drugs the doctor can give you if you need it!! Good luck and congratulation!!!!

I have had two children with no pain meds ...and it is painful but really for not that long when you seethe baby you forget all about it .. it kind of was all worth it ..
congratulations and good luck ..
breath and relax .. I know its silly but as long as you are relaxed it makes it a lot easier
