some times will start for just a second then shutoff.

It is a 2.2 liter F.I. some times it will start then shut back down. can't seem to find where the lead goes to. Checked to make sure the cap is not shorted but it's OK

This sounds like the MAP sensor is going bad. It is located on the fender well and has a three wire connector, and a vacuum line.

Disconnect the wire connector and see if the car starts. If it does, it will run rough. If the car runs with the connector disconnected, then replace the MAP sensor!

If I remember correctly, there is a start/run circuit. It starts on a full 12 volts, and when you release the key the voltage runs through a limiting resister. Check the connections on both sides of the resistor, and also check to see if is open intermittently. put a jumper across it, and if it runs fine that way, replace it. Don't just leave the jumper there or you will burn out the coil.

Your switch {the electrical part} is on top of your steering column, and may well be your problem. You also need to make sure that it is adusted correctly.
