It won't shift out of park. I changed the brake light switch and it did nothing. It has a bypass next to the shifter that when pushed it allows me to shift it out of park however this is getting really annoying driving like this. I have tried everything I could think of and need help. And yes I push the brake peddle when I try to shift it.

There is a solenoid that releases the shift handle, it does the same thing your doing by putting your key into the manual overide. The solenoid is an electrical device, think of it like a small motor if that helps. It is activated by depressing the brake pedal. There may be multiple switches on the brake pedal arm, one to activate the brake lights and one for this solenoid. or they may share only one switch. I would check the switches on the brake pedal arm, also check every fuse in the fuse block to make sure its not just a blown fuse causing it. Other than that it could be the solenoid itself burnt out or a bad connection between the solenoid and the brake switch. You should hear some type of click near the shift handle when you step on the brake, If you do, maybe its just jammed in there and just needs to be cleaned/oiled. Hope that helps. :)

The brake light switch has nothing to do with it shifting. I would take it in and have a Mechanic do a diag on it ... the problem sounds weird as I have never seen a bypass as you speak.

check the switch right on the other side of the shifter from where the one that you push with the key is. right by the shifter under or inside the console. It moves just a little bit and that's all it needs to start screwing up.
