You'll need 12 bricks to do each row laid parallel to the 8 foot wall (8 inches * 12 equals 8 feet), 3 rows for each foot of the 9 foot wall , so 27 rows.
27 * 12 = 324.
If you are laying a bonded pattern (offsetting each row from the previous one), diagonal, or herringbone style floor, you would want to buy some extras to allow for damaging a few while cutting the in-fill bricks. Usually reckon an extra 10% so buy 350 or 360. Conversely, if you are mortaring between the bricks as you lay them, you will need a few less, depending on the amount of mortar between each brick.
Tell your supplier that you are doing this, and ask if he will give you credit if you take back the unused ones when you have completed the job.

About 324. There are about 4.5 bricks in a square foot, and a 9x8 space is about 72 square feet. 4.5 x 72 = 324. Always buy a few extra just in case.

size of patio = 9ft x 8ft = 108in x 96in = 10368 square inches
size of brick = 4in x 8in = 32 square inches
number of bricks = 10368 / 32 = 324
