I aint sure what the model number is, but its a 3 hp model i want to overhaul it and make it at least 5 to 8 hp. I need new pistons, valves, o-rings, and would like a bigger carb. Whatever it takes to make serious power.

Sell it or keep using it....., only way you will get 5-8hp is to replace it with such.

These engines (especially the 3hp engines, which have long been discontinued, but much of the 3.5hp parts will fit) are very old..... not much out there for em...., and of course there will be no billet connecting rod to handle the power......, the carb should be a carb on tank model (either it be a horizontal or vertical) and are very limited to being bored out and re jetted.... etc.

All the money you will put into making it barely 4.5 hp...., will be better spent on a newer, more reliable, more powerful engine.

A 3 hp engine modified to produce any amount of real power will not last long before blowing up. Try to find a local go kart shop, or try apskarting.com. A good, highly modified 5 hp block can produce around 20 hp on methanol. If you can find a go kart racer, he (or she) will have lots of spare parts that are still good that they would probably sell you at a reasonable price. Also take a look at Checkeredflagfuels.com. Find or buy a Tillotson carb for serious power.

Get a Rolls Royce Merlin, Allisons were all right, but ask the guys that flew P 51's. About your Briggs, is it a 6BH,or somewhere near ? If it is,and you want to take the flywheel off. Some of the early Briggs engines had left hand threads on the crankshaft. Check or you will break the shaft.

B & S designed the engine to deliver 3hp. That is about all you will get. And no matter how many pistons you think you need, it only can handle one. You want serious power? Find and redo an Allison V-12. You can not make a silk purse...........

You can't make this happen with a 3 hp block . You can not hone the cylinder out that much. You need a a bigger engine. If you have it in a mini bike or rider mower, you can play with gears to make it go faster

i am not sure about the 3hp motors, i do know that you can do plenty to the 5hp and get good power for go-karts. they make a alcohol kit that you can get to really soup it up. check with your local small engine shop. they should get you in the right direction
