The poll suggests that because, Canadians have a better education system... from reading prior responses, I know this to be true. The American forces went into Afghanistan while the Soviets were invading. America made a promise to help rid the soviets, and help REBUILD the war torn country. Well the U.S. did rid them of the Soviets, but they left Afghanistan to fend for itself in a war tron state... Well I am not saying what transpired on 9-11 was called for, because it wasn't, but I can understand the feelings that prompted it. America screwed them over. It is unfortunate, and uncalled for with what happened on both sides.
An eye for an eye, and in the end, the whole world is blind.
CyberNara
P.S. The Canadian army may not have the toys that the U.S. has, but giving both the same equipment and number of troops, and Canada will whoop the U.S. any day. You are also forgetting we are on the same side... The terrorists didn't just attack America, but all of the free world.
Peace.

What won't have the ability to reason terrorism? The Republican's purely strongpoint in the upcomming election is that for the time of the Bush Admin. there have been no assaults on US soil because of the fact that 9/11. If the Reps. dropped this thought, then their entire possibility at yet another president from their celebration is lost. it is not like the reps. can place self assurance in social and fiscal advances.

Of course it was, the US practices ignorance and arrogance as foreign policy. We exert our influence wherever and whenever we can and we don't take kindly to opposing viewpoints. That doesn't in any way excuse or justify what the 9/11 terrorists did, but it's not as though it was a random, motiveless attack. They felt there was provocation and they made innocent people pay for it. Then we invaded a sovereign nation in response, which only furthers ill will against us.

I'm Canadian, Jim, but you should try to be fair rather than agitate American participants. Of course the usual insults greeted your question, and the insults are infantile at best, but I think it would be better to try to word your questions in a less antagonistic manner.
As for my answer, I think the poll suggests foreign policy or government inaction are at fault. And, I agree with the poll.

I don't care what people think. What caused 9/11 was some psychopaths with nothing better to do than kill thousands of people. THAT is what caused 9/11. There is no foreign policy bad enough to justify that.

I think it's easy to criticize when you are sitting in the cheap seats. Canada as well as Western Europe have made the decision to favor social welfare programs over military expenditures because they refuse to believe that they live in a dangerous world. I think because the United States has provided protection to them ever since the end of World War II. So they still believe that there are very few threats to Western society in spite of all the evidence that Islamo-fascists have given them over the past 25 years. Besides when was the last time anyone counted on Canada to save them?

For any true student of history, this unfortunately is true. When you mess and interfere in other country's problems as much as we do under guise of us being the world's police, you're bound to make enemies.

This is not a quick, smart alec answer - it is well thought out.
Who gives a damn what open border Canada thinks? They've got their heads buried so deep in the sand, I'm surprised they even know about the events on 9/11.
