Most of the people you meet with red hair could have ancestors from Scotland, Ireland, Wales. England?(not sure) I am probably leaving out some countries. I think maybe some of the Norweigans may carry the red hair gene...Why their hair is red in the first place?? Couldnt tell you! Maybe the site below will answer your question

I like red hair too! My Great Grandfather was of Scot-Irish ancestory and he had red hair!

Red hair is caused by a variant of a single gene. Melanocortin-1 receptor or MC1R. These derive from european populations. The prevalence of these alleles is highest in Celtic countries.
Red hair can skip generations. My mom is 1/4 native with chocolate brown hair and eyes. My dad was of Irish descent with medium brown hair and hazel eyes. I have auburn hair and turquoise eyes! Lord knows what my kids will look like!

The same reason that some guys have red hair, their parents had the genes that cause this and have passed them on to their children. The parents don't have to have red hair, but they have to possess the genes that carry it to the next generation.

Although most folks think of Ireland when you say red hair, there's more in Scotland. Believe me, I saw it.

My mum has red hair because all her ancestors are Irish and I was born and raised there for a few years so I guess I get the red from my mum.

hi. i am a doctor. people get red hair because they are the sons/daughters of the devil himself. if that's not the case, then their mom must have pulled them out with her hands at birth, causing excessive blood release. this would cause the hair to turn red for the rest of their life.
