I received several respnses to my problem with my 99 Daewoo Nubira. The car won't shift out of park and i changed the brake light switch and it did nothing. The most common response was that it is the solenoid. What is the solenoid and if this is the problem how can I fix it myself? Thanks for your help.

sounds like your shift release solenoid . with ignition on foot on the brake pedal should allow you to shift out of park . some vehicles do have a manual override next to the shifter use something like your ign, key stick it in the whole and shift. you state you changed your brake light switch if it was only two wire then there should be another switch next to it ! chek for power using test light if no power check fuses.... good luck.

I'm sure you already checked but I know alot of cars won't shift out of park unless you have your foot on the brake. Wouldn't you kick yourself in the butt if that's all it was?

I would definitely take it to a repair shop. If it has a floor shifter, it might be the button on the shifter knob itself. The linkage to this button might be broken.

My 1st thought is, are you parking on a hill?

Right, the light is ONLY telling you there might be something wrong with something unimportant, like your brakes. lol lol
