It looks like the Godzilla version of the sand crabs we have here (about 1 inch in size). I assume you live close to where those critters come from (if you are telling the truth about having one). If you can't bring yourself to turn it loose the donate it to the nearest large aquarium that keeps marine creatures. I'm sure they'd be delighted to have it either as a featured animal or as food for a featured animal.

I wouldn;t suggest a zoo.....more like an aquarium . You are right, it is an unusual pet...there has only been a few specimens caught with baited traps. Which makes me wonder...how did you come by yours? As what to do, if there is any aquariums around i would ask and see what they can tell you....

OMG, it looks like a giant pillbug! Wherever it ends up, it needs to be in salt water to survive. I'd suggest donating it to a marine aquarium.
