How can one copy a video from the web to edit into Final Cut pro?

You need Quicktime Pro, which you should get with FCP. If you have re-installed FCP or your OS, then you have lost your key and may have to re-install. When you install Final Cut Studio, Quicktime Pro automatically activates. Just wait until it finishes downloading, control-click (right-click) on the video and select "Save as Source" or if you have trouble, then "Save as Quicktime Movie" There's also a little triangle at the bottom right where those options appear when you click.
