Pressure is from baby coming down to "engage" in the pelvis. It's normal - and as to when you'll go into labor, any time. Look for tightening in your belly - some 1st time moms say "the baby's balling up" - these are contractions, and may or may not be uncomfortable - you may already be having them, but not noticing. Once you start noticing them, look for them to gradually get more intense and closer together. Keep in mind that all this is general info - everybody's different, and things may happen faster or slower for anyone. Your "water" may or may not break. You'll probably have some bloody/mucus discharge - can happen up to two weeks before labor, but might not happen until you're in labor. Some women might lose their appetite, become nauseous, or have diarrhea in early labor. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to say how things will happen - fast or slow, sooner or later - but follow your doctors advice. If you feel like you might be going into labor, you can usually call the doctoe, or the place you intend to deliver, and get specific answers about what to do.

Sounds like you're getting close.

How dilated and effaced you are really won't help predict when you'll go into labor. You can walk around for a week or more at 3-4 cm and 100% effaced (I did!) or you can be closed up tight as a bank vault and have a baby a couple of hours later. Cervical checks are truely worthless. It's just another way that doctors try to manage your pregnancy and birth.

well the one sure thing you can watch for is your mucous plug coming out it will look just as it sounds only like a string of mucous..other signs you can watch out for a cramping in your stomach witch only last for a few mins or so...when this starts happening you are in labor. theres really no other way to tell. when i was getting ready to have my first baby i came home from my boyfriends house and was very presistent on taking a shower before i went to bed and i was in the hospital at 4 am the same night so theres a couple signs you could watch out for. hope i helped

youre beggining to engage..that means your baby is descending into your pelvic area thats why you felt it dropped. you are probably goin to experience some labour pains soon. think you need to check with your midwife/doctor if she is somewhere available as it could be sooner or maybe a little bit longer than expected. or better yet, if you're giving birth in the hospital, then get ready with the baby's stuff and make sure the car is ready to run too.congrats and good luck.

I had the same thing happen to me. I also had the braxston hicks. That made my labor so much easier. I had my baby in 3 hrs and 20 min. With no pain.

I was 2 cm for two weeks and then finally went into labor 10 days after my due date. You may start to lose your mucus plug. You are making progress and that is what counts.

Good luck!

What station are you? What is "well effaced" - 50% 90%? It's hard to say because you can be dialated 2cm for weeks, even with 90%.

It probably will not be long. Usually within 24 hours of delivery, you will get a pinkish discharge and it may even be a little red. When you see that....get ready! Good luck and congrats!

If this is your first child it can take between hours - weeks, it really just depends on your body
