Well I have no complaints against Miracle Gro except that they tell you to use too much. First you will get lush growth and then you will burn the roots off!
So use one third the product in a gallon of water that the label recommends, but use it every time you water, with a monthly flush of clear water to wash out the salt build up on the roots.
I also use Neptune's Harvest, an Organic feed that is from Ocean products, it is both a root or foliar feed.
The advantage of using it as a foliar feed is that because it is a fish oil based product, the OIL acts as a mild insecticide also.
The dis-advantage is that because it is a fish oil product...PHEW 24 hour of residual smell! Not good if you are using it in a customers yard! Especially the day before a Wedding...TRUST ME...!

Well considering everyone has told you to use miracle gro---which by the way has an NPK content being nitrogen phosphorous and potassium of 20-20-20 percent...that definetely is a good suggestion. On the other hand Schultz just came out with something known as bloom plus which is a high Phosphorous content....10-54-10....this will promote root growth and multiple blossoms on your plant.

SOIL TEST FIRST TO SEE WHAT YOU NEED IN THE SOIL.
YOU MAY NOT NEED A 20-20-20. The only way to know is with a soil test, the kits are usually free from your county extension agent, and a general test will probably run about 15.00
