I know about the basic requirments to run for President (born in the U.S., at least 35 years old, and live in the US for at least 14 years), but what I want to know is what do you need politicaly to run. Do I need an endorsment from a major party, or can I just run without a party??

Run with the double mint gum green party.

Go Double Mint Go! I am now a Green Double Mint party supporter.

Paul K quoted on 9/7/06:
"Double Mint. Both the R and the D seem to attract the "extreme". I believe the answers are usually in the middle and I recognize the need for compromise. I also think it is important to know the person. When I vote, it is usually 1/4 R, 1/4 D, The remaining are Independent or left blank."

You do not need an endorsement from any party. You can run without even registering with a party. The basic requirements that you listed are sufficient.

Certain parties are granted spaces on the ballot, but you could run, and be a write-in.

If you wanted to be on the ballot, you would either have to be nominated by one of the parties on the ballot, or figure out how to get your own party on the ballot.

I think for your own party to be on the ballot, your party needs something like 1% votes from the previous election; that's just a guess, though.

I think I saw about 6 or 7 parties, last time I voted for President, but it could be anywhere from 4-8; my memory's blurry.

Yes

There is a man that travels the National Park circuit and campaigns. He keeps a sign in sheet and with a prescribed signature count is able to stay in the race.

He gets a couple $million in Federal champagne fees every 4 years. Enough to stay in the race.

Go big Red Go

Party nomination is about campaign support and financing of the party. Running for president without party support is an expensive act of futility.

You don't really need party ties but you will need a lot of money. The one with the most charisma and the largest war-chest wins.

if you have enough money - you don't need.
create your party...
but without a party - you will never get enough voters.
so you will lose money. thats all.
