I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to ask, but I think I get it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're trying to ask why someone who initiated an argument will just say whatever and walk away?... because they can't accept and admit to being wrong or losing. When they are shown that their position logically is unstable and the other side is much more stable, rather than admitting that they were wrong, misled, ill-informed, etc etc... they'll say whatever and walk away. That way, they don't suffer the percieved humiliation of being wrong and there is no conclusion to the argument that they don't like...

Whatever is kind of a slur like saying I hear you, but I don't agree with what you say. It can be a rather confrontational term and probably could contribute to an escalated argument.

Because they feel stupid after starting something they can't finish! They know they had no valid reason for saying what they've said, and to get chewed up and spit out is not a good feeling! LOL...If I did something simple like that and someone tore me a new one I'd probably say whatever too! LOL...But of course that never happens! Usually when I say whatever it means you better get outta my face before I slap the taste out! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well they are caught off guard to the person in questions defense to their comment...they really didn't expect such a silencing response to their stupid comment so when they are left with little to no adequate answer they are dumb-founded so they say: ( Whatever)???

Because most people are not used to being confronted by logic and accountability. Once they are with that 1, 2 punch - they are defeated.

They can't come up with any other evidence to defend there case. Or, they get so caught up in the fight that they lose their train of thought. So... instead of being quiet, whcih is so hard to do when you are angry, just say WHATEVER!!.

No, its when they END the arguement is when they say "Whatever"- essentially it means they give up their position because its not worth fighting for
