Hello gang! Since I can't find the previous answers to questions then I must pose one. I am intersested in purchasing a Kawasaki Concour, I am thinking about a 2001 model, because of price and color . Does any one know about the reliability of this bike?

I own a 1986 Connie (commonly called the "silver dam-it") This is the first year that the Connie was made. The Connie has been around for 21 years !!

The reason it has been around for that long and still selling strong, is the value for what you get.

As you have seen, the price is reasonable, and the quality of the bike and reliability are outstanding. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one today, any year any color, because they are that reliable.

Over the 20 years I have owned my bike, I have done about $2000 in mechanical repairs to the bike, (not including oil, tires, fork oil, brake fluid, coolant) I have 98,000 miles on my bike. I have seen several bikes with over 200,000 miles on them and still running strong.

If you are a skilled rider with experience,(this is not a beginners bike, it is quick and powerful, 997 cc moves along with most 600 cc sport bikes) Get this bike and you will be pleased for years to come.

A friend of mine let me borrow his for about a month and my overall opinion is that the Connie is the best of both worlds. It has great touring capabilities with a comfortable seat position. The fuel tank holds quite a bit of fuel and has adequate room for the rear passenger to be comfy. A downfall, which is easily remedied is the buffeting that occurs from the windscreen. I am 6'4 and the wind was hitting the middle of my helmet in front. If you are shorter there should be no problem. All you do is trim off about 4" off of the top of the windscreen to eliminate the buffeting.
My impression of the power was good. I ride a Suzuki Bandit 1200 so I'm spoiled with the power on demand. The Connie did not have quite as much but there is still plenty at the flick of the wrist.
From what I understand maintenance isn't too terrible. The fairings on any bike can be a hassle to take off and put back on but like others have said. It's been around for years and years so that tells you something.
I guess the only other thing is that the Connie has oddball size tires and may be pricey but certainly no reason to not get one for the barn. You'll love it.

In all my years repairing bikes, I haven't repaired many concours' and they've been around since the mid 80's (that's how reliable they are).
Ask your question in a yahoo concours oweners group.
