Elephants would roam supreme in peace. Lions would still be kings. Whales would still be highly intelligent and the world would have kept it's natural order. I can not realy go into detail because I don't really know the existance of many things on this planet. But basically, natural order would rain supreme.

The world is a giant interconnected organism. Each creature has its place to fulfill. For example, there is a specific butterfly that fertilizes a specific plant in Hawaii. Since the plant is becoming extinct, so is the bird. Humans were meant to be the caretakers or "brain" of this interconnected world. We are kind of botching the job but without our presence, there would be no brain. The Indians had the right concept in that we were to be the caretakers, not the owners. Without the caretaking, the world would be helter skelter kind of like a garden with noone to weed. Hopefully, we will relearn what our role is supposed to be.

Some other species might have evolved with intelligence.

And they'd be wondering what the world would be like if, say, giant sloths had never existed.

Well the environment would be a lot less polluted, there would be more woodlands and stuff.
It's possible another species could've taken over, but it's not likely.
Basically the world would be a lot more peaceful. Whether it would've been better off or not, nobody knows.

I think it would still be relatively chaotic because of other life on the planet who would be trying to survive. Also, with natural disasters and other devastating occurrences that aren't a result of human provocateur - the world would still be far from "peaceful." I definitely think it would be less chaotic without humans, but it still wouldn't be completely peaceful.

I like this question. puts things in perspective.

maybe dinosaurs would still roam the earth. the creator wouldn't have had to end their existance to make way for human evolution. or maybe there would be another type of life form for our souls to inhabit.

Greater biotic diversity, especially much more in the way of large fauna (e.g., elephants and related proboscids). Different distributions of plant and animal communities, especially in insular environments. Other than that, I don't think things would be too terribly different.
