On the 1989 Accord, to remove the alternator simply take out the air filter housing. Two bolts, and it's out. Last time I did one of these, the job took me about 20 minutes from removal to reinstall.

engine removal is not necesary. replacement of the alternater is done from under the vehicle. you may have to work it a little but should be able to slip it out in between the halfshaft and the sub frame. it is a lot easier if u remove the halfshaft first although not necessary. if u want more details, contact me

if you have the LXi fuel injected motor then just remove the air cleaner housing completely from the vehicle and you should be able to remove the alternator through the top of the engine, if its the carburated engine then you will have to drop the axle to remove it from the bottom of the engine
