will wearing a corset shrink my waistline?

Yes.
In a few months corsets will shrink your waistline and help you to loose weight elsewhere as well.
Why? Because you can't eat as much, and the stays help hold your muscles in. They can also help with your posture.

The downside of corsets:
1. They are uncomfortable.
2. You can't breathe as well.
3. Women have been known to faint from lack of oxygen.
4. If worn too tightly, you can actually damage your organs.

If you decide to buy one, remember that you should only be tightening it to a comfortable point. The corseted waist should be no more than 2" smaller than your waist with it off. As you loose inches (and pounds) you can tighten it. It takes a couple of months to see real results, and this is with everyday wear.

Consider carefully before you commit to this. While it may help your looks, it can be a detriment to your body if done improperly.

In general, it will only while you wear it.
This is true if you wear one only occasionally. You can comfortably wear one that reduces your natural waistline by up to 4"
If you decide to wear it daily to "train" your waist, yes it will reduce your natural waistline...but only after a significant amount of time and patience. The practice is referred to as "tight lacing" and requires diligently corsetting 23/7 (taking it off only to bathe).

Either way you choose, it's important to know that a custom fitted corset is the only way to go for comfort and long term health. Off-the-rack corsets are made with generalized proportions and almost NOBODY is a "standard" size. Those would suffice for an evening out here and there, but not for regular, long term use.

Yes, but the stuffing making up your old waistline just gets moved. If you wear it a lot, you'll be able to tighten it more and more over time. but the old shape will keep coming back when you take it off (think balloon)

Not really. It may give that appearance while you are wearing it but the minute you take it off, it's back to sag city.
