Anything you wear that could come into contact with food can harbor bacteria and be impossible to keep safe. Also, when you work with industrial equipment there is a hazard that you may become 'entangled' in the equipment and lose that finger. It is more precious than any ring. If you check with your state regs. you'll find that Wal-Mart is trying to comply with local laws designed to protect you and the public. Just follow directions and put your stuff back on when you get off work. You'll be doing a good thing and in the long run it will pay off when you look for a better job you won't be labeled as a 'problem'.

another reason you prob. can't wear the jewelry in the meat dept is because all kinds of different bacteria can hide in those little crevasses. That and if you are helping some to do something their hair can get stuck in your watch band or your ring may accidentally scratch them. you'd be surprised what lengths some people will go through to sue someone.

think of all the equipment you work with in the meat deprtment. those rings could mean the loss of a finger and the watch could mean the loss of a hand should they get caught in the machine. Not to mention the bacteria. If you want to wear them, then go work in another department that is not meat or deli.

Rings and watches and in reality, fake nails, and food don't mix at all. Bacteria and germs can cling to the skin under them and contaminate the food you're working with. Thus passing the contaminates to others through the food. Even if you wear those silly plastic gloves, the rings can puncture them.
For all of our sakes, please remove the items before handling our food. Thanks!

What happens is you get meat, etc stuck in the rings, and you can't see it till it starts to smell, by that time it's growing micro organism's that can infect you and other meats, also it can puncture gloves.
