Stats are just part of the story.

Hoffman has been really shaky in the post season.

Mariano has been lights out.

Obviously, Hoffman has more saves but I think you have to give the nod to Mariano. That cutter is unhittable.

Mariano is the best closer of all time. 1st ballot hall of famer

Well Hoffman as been a closer a few years longer then Mariano and Mariano isnt that far behind in saves, also has a better ERA. Rivera has had 4 world series titles on his resume including 3 as the closer. He also has the record of saves in the post season and his 98 yankees beat the 98 padres. Stats show the better closer is Mariano Rivera.
And nugster your a dumb *** if you say anything against rivera. You bring up all those years and the only one that could be blamed on him was in 01. in 04 against the sox he inherited the runners when he blew the save. Dumb f*ck.

Without a doubt it's Mariano Rivera. Let's take a look at their postseason records versus their regular season records. Hoffman in has 473 saves in 12 years compared to Rivera who has 412 in 10 years. Rivera's ERA in the regular season is 2.30 and his postseason ERA is 0.81 with 34 saves. Hoffman's regular season ERA is 2.70, and his postseason ERA is 3.75 with 3 saves. That is why my vote would go to Rivera.
